Challenging Lower Body Stability Exercises

Its been a minute but I’m back! I’ve have been continuing my education over these past few weeks and I wanted to share a little bit of what I’ve been learning. In this blog I am going to show you a few lower body exercises that work on improving your strength and stability.

I think most of us know understand why its important to be strong but why is it important to work on stability? There are so many reasons! But to name a few:

  1. Our balance and stability worsens as we age. If you don’t use it or practice it, you lose it.

  2. During sports and activities like running or walking, you are balancing on one leg for a period of time and you don’t even realize it. Improving your stability will help improve your performance in your sport or activity.

  3. Safety! We want to be able to react to our environment to avoid injury. Being able to quickly move around an object or prevent a fall is critical. Part of being able to react quickly requires a certain amount of stability.

The exercises below contain movements that will challenge your lower body stability and movements that work on being stable while being dynamic (aka jumping). Pick a few of the exercises to try to add to your routine to help improve your stability and strength.

Lateral Step with Reach

Adduction Toe Taps

Step Back with Knee Drive Plus Hop

Single Leg Balance Pass

Single Arm Farmers Carry

Reverse Lunge to Single Leg Deadlift
