Nutrition Myths with Sarah James

It seems like just about everyday there is a new nutrition fad in the fitness and wellness industry. With all this conflicting information if can be overwhelming to try to figure out what nutrition facts are true and what nutrition facts are myths. I partnered with Sarah James (aka @thebalancebeast) to discuss common nutrition myths and misunderstandings. Sarah is a certified holistic nutrition health coach certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and is also a NASM certified weight-loss specialist, an animal flow instruction, and a yoga instructor.

 

Nutrition Myths Part 1: Low fat = healthy, Carbs are evil, etc.

In the video above, Sarah and I discuss macro-nutrients (protein, fats, and carbs). A few myths that we discuss are:

  • Low fat automatically = healthy

  • Carbs are the enemy

  • Marketed “healthy” foods

  • Protein shakes

 

Nutrition Myths Part 2: Food Timing

In the video above, Sarah and I discuss food timing. A few myths that we discuss are:

  • Eating after a certain time automatically leads to weight gain.

  • The idea of exercising off your food.

  • Skipping meals after overeating the day before.

  • Magic 30 minute window after exercise for protein.

  • Over-exercising and under-eating to make up for what we did the day before.

 

Nutrition Myths Part 3: Toning, Detoxes, etc.

In the video above, Sarah and I discuss toning and detox supplements. A few myths that we discuss are:

  • Detox teas, waist trainers, fat burners.

  • Toning or losing weight only on a specific part of your body.

  • Taking apple cider vinegar or eating grape fruit for fat-loss.

  • The concept of changing fat into muscle.

  • Weight-loss automatically = health
